May Adonai bless you and safeguard you. May Adonai illuminate His countenance for you and be gracious to you. May Adonai turn His countenance to you and establish peace for you.

Mishnah, Peah 1:1

Eilu d’varim she’ein lahem shiur. Hapeiah v’habikurim v’hara’ayon ug’milut chasadim v’talmud Torah.

These are the precepts that have no prescribed measure: the corner of the field [which must be left for the poor], the firstfruit offering, the pilgrimage, acts of kindness, and Torah study.

10

Talmud, Shabbat 127a

Eilu d’varim she’adam okeil peroteihem ba’olam hazeh v’hakeren lo laolam habah, v’eilu hen. Kibud av vaeim, ug’milut chasadim, v’hash’kamat beit hamidrash shacharit v’arvit, v’hak’nasat orchim, uvikur cholim, v’hak’nasat kalah, ulvayat hamet, v’iyun t’filah, va’havaat shalom bein adam la’chaveiro, v’talmud Torah k’neged kulam.

These are the precepts whose fruits a person enjoys in this world, but whose principle remains in the World to Come, They are: the honor due to father and mother, acts of kindness, early attendance at the house of study morning and evening, hospitality to guests, visiting the sick, providing for a bride, escorting the dead, absorption in prayer, bringing peace between man and his fellow – and the study of Torah is equivalent to them all.

11

Mattai 5:18-19

For, amen, I say to you, until Heaven and Earth pass away, not one yod or one thorn will pass away from the Torah until all has been established. Therefore the man who nullifies one of these minor mitzvot and teaches men to do like him will be called small in the Kingdom of Heaven, but whoever does and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Elohai Neshama

12

Elohai neshama shenatata bi t’horah hi. Atah v’ratah, atah y’tzartah, atah n’fachtah bi, v’atah m’sham’rah b’kir’bi, v’atah atid lit’lah mimeni, ul’hachazirah bi leatid lavo. Kol z’man shehan’shamah v’kir’bi, modeh [modah] ani l’faneka, ADONAI Elohai veilohei avotai, ribon kol hamaasim, adon kol han’shamot. Baruch atah ADONAI, hamachzir n’shamot lif’garim meitim.

My God, the soul You placed within me is pure. You created it, You fashioned it, You breathed it into me, You safeguard it within me, and eventually You will take it from me, and restore it to me in the Time to Come. As long as the soul is within me, I gratefully thank You, ADONAI, my God and the God of my ancestors, Master of all works, Lord of all souls. Blessed are You, ADONAI, Who restores souls to the dead.

P'sukei D'zimrah - Verses of Praise

All Returns to Prayer

14

To pray is to bow
With my heart
In the direction of holiness.

To bow is to see
With my soul
Beauty and splendor.

To see is to bless
With my spirit
The glory of creation.

To bless is to yearn
With my breath
For the wisdom of the ages.

To yearn is to welcome
With my being
The hopes of tomorrow.

To welcome is to summon
With my sight
Awe and righteousness.

To summon is to pray
With my strength
For light to descend from heaven
And for peace to reign on earth.

In mercy do You give light to the earth and to all who dwell upon it, and in Your goodness do you renew every day, continuously, the work of Creation. How great are Your works, Adonai! In wisdom you made them all, filling the earth with your creatures. The Ruler Who alone was exalted before Creation, Who has been praised, glorified and raised on high since ancient days, Eternal God, in Your abundant mercies, have mercy upon us. Our powerful God, our rock-like fortress, our shield of redemption, be a stronghold for us! Blessed God, great in knowledge, prepared and formed the rays of the sun. The beneficent One created honor for God's Name, and placed luminaries around God's might. The heads of God's legions, holy ones, exalters of the Almighty, are always relating the honor of God and God's holiness. May You be blessed, Adonai our God, beyond the praises of Your handiwork and beyond the brightness of the luminaries that You created—may they glorify You!

With an abundant love have You loved us, ADONAI, our God; with exceedingly great pity have You pitied us, Our Father, our King, for the sake of our ancestors who trusted in You and whom You taught the decrees of life, may You be equally gracious to us and teach us. Our Father, the merciful Father, Who acts mercifully, have mercy upon us, instill in our hearts to understand and elucidate, to listen, learn, teach, safeguard, perform, and fulfill all the words of Your Torah's teaching with love. Enlighten our eyes in Your Torah, attach our hearts to Your commandments, and unify our heart, to love and fear Your Name, and may we not feel inner shame for all eternity. Because we have trusted in Your great and awesome holy Name, may we exult and rejoice in Your salvation. Bring us in peacefulness from the *four corners* of the earth and lead us with upright pride to our land. For You affect salvations, O God; You have chosen us from among every people and tongue.

Chazzan - And You have brought us close to Your great Name forever in truth, to offer praiseful thanks to You, and proclaim Your Oneness with love. Blessed are You, ADONAI, Who chooses His people Israel with love. (Cong. - Amen.)

You shall love ADONAI, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your resources. Let these matters that I command you today be upon your heart. Teach them thoroughly to your children and speak of them while you sit in your home, while you walk on the way, when you retire and when you arise. Bind them as a sign upon your arm and let them be tefillin between your eyes, and write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates.

While reciting the second paragraph (Deuteronomy 11:13-21), concentrate on accepting all the commandments and the concept of reward and punishment.

Deuteronomy 11:13-21

And it will come to pass that if you continually hearken to My commandments that I command you today, to love, ADONAI your God, and to serve Him, with all your heart and with all your Soul - then I will provide rain for your land in its proper time, the early and late rains, that you may gather in your grain, your wine, and your oil. I will provide grass in your field for your cattle and you will eat and be satisfied. Beware lest your heart be seduced and you turn astray and serve gods of others and bow to them. Then the wrath of ADONAI will blaze against you. He will restrain the heaven so there will be no rain and the ground will not yield its produce. And you will swiftly be banished from the goodly land which ADONAI gives you. Place these words of Mine upon your heart and upon your soul; bind them for a sign upon your arm and let them be tefillin between your eyes, Teach them to your children, to discuss them, while you sit in your home, while you walk on the way, when you retire and when you arise. And write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates. In order to prolong your days and the days of your children upon the ground that ADONAI has sworn to your ancestors to give them, like the days of the heaven on the earth.

The tzitzit are kissed at each mention of the word and at the end of the paragraph, and are passed before the eyes at 'that you may see it'.

And they are to place upon the tzitzit of each corner a thread of techeilet. And it shall constitute tzitzit for you, that you may see it and remember all the commandments of ADONAI and perform them; and not explore after your heart and after your eyes after which you stray. So that you may remember and perform all My commandments; and be holy to your God. I am ADONAI, your God, Who has removed you from the land of Egypt to be a God to you. I am ADONAI your God - it is true.

In the past God spoke to our fathers through the prophets, at many times in various ways; but now in the end of days He has spoken to us by the Messiah, His Son, who He appointed the heir of all things and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the flawless manifestation of His reality. [ADONAI] sustains all things by His powerful word. After [Yeshua] made atonement for sins, he sat down in the place of authority beside the Majesty in heaven.

From generation to generation He endures and His Name endures and His throne is well established; His sovereignty and faithfulness endure forever. His words are living and enduring, faithful and delightful forever (kiss the tzitzit and release them) and to all eternity;

Chazzan - for our ancestors and for us, for our children and for our generations, and for all the generations of Your servant Israel's offspring.

Upon the earlier and upon later generations, this affirmation is good and enduring forever. True and faithful, it is an unbreachable decree. It is true that You are ADONAI, our God and the God of our ancestors,

Elohai N'tzor (Meditation after the Amidah)

My God, guard my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceitfully. To those who curse me, let my soul be Silent; and let my soul be like dust to everyone. Open my heart to Your Torah, then my soul will pursue Your commandments. As for all those who design evil against me, speedily nullify their counsel and disrupt their design. Act for Your Name's sake; act for Your right hand's sake; act for Your sanctity's sake; act for Your Torah's sake. That Your beloved ones may be given rest; let Your right hand save, and respond to me.

May the expressions of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, ADONAI, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Bow and take three steps back. Bow left and say, 'He Who makes peace ...’ bow right and say, 'may He make peace ...’ bow forward and say, 'and upon ... Amen.'

127

Oseh shalom bimromav, hu yaaseh shalom aleinu v'al kol Yisraeil, v'im'ru: Amein.

He Who makes peace in His heights, may He make peace upon us, and upon all Israel. Now respond: Amen.

128

May it be Your will, ADONAI our God and the God of our ancestors, that the Holy Temple be rebuilt, speedily in our days. Grant us our share in Your Torah, and may we serve You there with reverence, as in days of old and in former years. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to ADONAI, as in days of old and in former years.

Sit. You may insert silent personal prayers and meditations.

It is our duty to praise the Master of all, to ascribe greatness to the Molder of primeval creation, for He has not made us like the nations of the lands and has not emplaced us like the families of the earth; for He has not assigned our portion like theirs nor our lot like all their multitudes. But we bend our knees, bow, and acknowledge our thanks before the King Who reigns over kings, the Holy One, Blessed is He. He stretches out heaven and establishes earth's foundation, the seat of His homage is in the heavens above and His powerful Presence is in the loftiest heights. He is our God and there is none other. True is our King, there is nothing beside Him, as it is written in His Torah: ‘You are to know this day and take to your heart that ADONAI is the only God - in heaven above and on the earth below - there is none other.’

Therefore we put our hope in You, ADONAI our God, that we may soon see Your mighty splendor, to remove detestable idolatry from the earth, and false gods will be utterly cut off, to perfect the universe through the Almighty's sovereignty. Then all humanity will call upon Your Name, to turn all the earth's wicked toward You. All the world's inhabitants will recognize and know that to You every knee should bend, every tongue should swear. Before You, ADONAI, our God, they will bend every knee and cast themselves down and to the glory of Your Name they will render homage, and they will all accept upon themselves the yoke of Your kingship that You may reign over them soon and eternally. For the kingdom is Yours and You will reign for all eternity in glory as it is written in Your Torah: ADONAI shall reign for all eternity. Chazzan - And it is said: ADONAI will be King over all the world - on that day ADONAI will be One and His Name will be One.
