Vaanachnu n'vareich Yah, meiatah v'ad olam. Hal'luyah.

We will bless God from this time and forever, Halleluyah!

Uva L'Tzion

This prayer is recited only at Shabbat mincha. It is full of quotes from Tanakh which depict angels calling out reminders of God's glory. It asks God to direct our hearts toward holiness, and reminds us that God is merciful; it expresses our hope that we may live to see messianic time when the work of creation will be complete. As it is written in Isaiah, "Trust in God forever, for in God is the strength of all the worlds." (by Rabbi Rachel Barenblat)

24

'Redemption will come to those who make teshuvah,' says ADONAI. 'And this is My covenant with them: My spirit that is upon you, My words which I have given you, will not leave you or your children, now or ever.'

You, O God, are holy, enthroned on our prayers; and we are like the fire-angels on high, singing one to another, Holy, Holy, Holy is ADONAI of hosts. God's Presence fills the world!

We grant one another permission to pray; we remind ourselves that God's holiness exists both here and in the highest heavens.

We remember the vision of Ezekiel: "A spiritwind carried me away and I heard behind me the sound of a great roaring which said, Blessed is the Presence of ADONAI from wherever it shall be, accompanied by the beating of vast angels' wings, the sound of a great roaring."

Together we ask:
Help us to pray like the angels
in whose hearts and minds
holy holy holy
ricochets like a laser beam.
Open our hearts to You, God,
and to Your Torah,
so that our souls might sing to You
and not be stilled.
From the birthplace of creation,
please, God
send us redemption: help us
transform ourselves,
turn our hearts toward holiness,
stir us to create healing,
open our eyes to Your presence
everywhere, everywhere.

Torah Service

Stand. From the moment the Ark is opened until the Torah is returned to it, one must conduct themselves with the utmost respect, and avoid unnecessary conversation. It is commendable to kiss the Torah with another object (tzitzit, siddur, etc.) as it is carried to the bimah [reading table] and back to the Ark. One should turn as the Torah makes its circuit around the congregation to face the Torah always.

The Ark is opened; before the Torah is removed the congregation recites:

28

Vay'hi binsoa haaron vayomer Moshe: Kuma ADONAI v'yafutsu oy'vecha v'yanusu m'sanecha mipanecha. Baruch shenatan Torah l'amo Yisraeil bikdushato.

When the Ark would travel, Moses would say, 'Arise, ADONAI, and let Your foes be scattered, let those who hate You flee from You.' For from Zion the Torah will come forth and the word of ADONAI from Jerusalem. Blessed is He Who gave the Torah to His people Israel in His holiness.

29

B'rich Sh'meh

Blessed is the Name of the Master of the universe, blessed is Your crown and Your place. May Your favor remain with Your people Israel forever; may You display the salvation of Your right hand to Your people in Your Holy Temple, to benefit us with the goodness of Your luminescence and to accept our prayers with mercy. May it be Your will that You extend our lives with goodness and that I be numbered among the righteous; that You have mercy on me and protect me, all that is mine and that is Your people Israel’s. It is You Who nourishes all and sustains all; You control everything. It is You Who control kings, and kingship is Yours. I am a servant of the Holy One Blessed is He, and I prostrate myself before Him and before the glory of His Torah at all times. Not in any man do I put trust, nor on any angel do I rely - only on the God of heaven Who is the God of truth, Whose Torah is truth and Whose prophets are true and Who acts liberally with kindness and truth. In Him do I trust, and to His glorious and holy Name do I declare praises.

*May it be Your will that You open my heart to the Torah and that You fulfill the wishes of my heart and the heart of Your entire people Israel for good, for life, and for peace. (Amen.)

30

The Torah is removed from the Ark and presented to the assistant, who accepts it in his right arm. The assistant turns to Ark, bows and raises the Torah, and recites:

31

Declare the greatness of ADONAI with me, and let us exalt His Name together.

The assistant turns to the right and carries the Torah in a circuit around to the bimah, as the congregation responds:

32

Yours, ADONAI, is the greatness, the strength, the splendor, the triumph, and the glory; even everything in heaven and earth; Yours, ADONAI, is the kingdom, and the sovereignty over every leader.

Exalt ADONAI, our God, and bow at His footstool; He is Holy! Exalt ADONAI, our God, land bow to His Holy Mountain; for holy is ADONAI our God.

34

May the Father of compassion have mercy on the nation that is borne by Him, and may He remember the covenant of the spiritually mighty. May He rescue our souls from the bad times, and upbraid the Evil Inclination to leave those borne by Him, graciously make us an eternal remnant, and fulfill our requests in good measure, for salvation and mercy.

All recite:

35

You who cling to ADONAI, your God, you are all alive today.

46

Parting with the Torah

Y'hal'lu et sheim ADONAI, ki nisgav sh'mo l'vado.

Let them praise the Name of ADONAI, for His Name alone will have been exalted.

Congregation responds:

47

His glory is above earth and heaven. And He will have exalted the pride of His people, causing praise for all His devout ones, for the Children of Israel, His intimate people. Halleluyah!

48

It is a tree of life for those who grasp it, and its supporters are praiseworthy. Its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace. Lengthy days are at its right; at its left are wealth and honor. ADONAI desired, for the sake of its [Israel's] righteousness, that the Torah be made great and glorious.

The Torah is returned to the Ark

49

And when it rested he would say, Return ADONAI to the myriad thousands of Israel. Arise, ADONAI, to Your resting place, You and the Ark of Your strength. Let Your priests be clothed in righteousness, and Your devout ones will sing joyously. For the sake of David, Your servant, turn not away the face of Your anointed. For I have given you a good teaching, do not forsake My Torah.

The Ark is closed.

Abraham rejoiced in it, Isaac celebrated in it, Jacob and his children took comfort in it. It is the rest of love and magnanimity, the rest of truth and faith, the rest of peace and wholeness, the complete rest that You have given us to be with You. May your children reccognize and know that from you comes their rest, and through their rest, they will sanctify Your Name.

Meditation after the Amidah

71

Elohai N'tzor

My God, guard my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceitfully. To those who curse me, let my soul be Silent; and let my soul be like dust to everyone. Open my heart to Your Torah, then my soul will pursue Your commandments. As for all those who design evil against me, speedily nullify their counsel and disrupt their design. Act for Your Name's sake; act for Your right hand's sake; act for Your sanctity's sake; act for Your Torah's sake. That Your beloved ones may be given rest; let Your right hand save, and respond to me.

May the expressions of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, ADONAI, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Bow and take three steps back. Bow left and say, 'He Who makes peace ...’ bow right and say, 'may He make peace ...’ bow forward and say, 'and upon ... Amen.'

72

Oseh shalom bimromav, hu yaaseh shalom aleinu v'al kol Yisraeil, v'im'ru: Amein.

He Who makes peace in His heights, may He make peace upon us, and upon all Israel. Now respond: Amen.

May it be Your will, ADONAI our God and the God of our forefathers, that the Holy Temple be rebuilt, speedily in our days. Grant us our share in Your Torah, and may we serve You there with reverence, as in days of old and in former years. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to ADONAI, as in days of old and in former years.

Insert your own silent personal prayers/meditations. OK to Sit.

It is our duty to praise the Master of all, to ascribe greatness to the Molder of primeval creation, for He has not made us like the nations of the lands and has not emplaced us like the families of the earth; for He has not assigned our portion like theirs nor our lot like all their multitudes. But we bend our knees, bow, and acknowledge our thanks before the King Who reigns over kings, the Holy One, Blessed is He. He stretches out heaven and establishes earth's foundation, the seat of His homage is in the heavens above and His powerful Presence is in the loftiest heights. He is our God and there is none other. True is our King, there is nothing beside Him, as it is written in His Torah: ‘You are to know this day and take to your heart that ADONAI is the only God - in heaven above and on the earth below - there is none other.’

Al ken n'kave l'cha, ADONAI Eloheinu, lirot m'hera b'tiferet uzecha, l'ha'avir gilulim min ha aretz, v'ha'elilim karot yikaretun, l'taken olam, b'malchut Shaddai. V'kol b'nei vasar yikr'u vishmecha, l'hafnot elecha, kol rishei aretz, yakiru v'yeid'u, kol yosh'vei tevel, ki l'cha tichra kol berech, tishava kol lashon, l'fanecha ADONAI Eloheinu, yichr'u v'yipolu, v'lichvod shimcha y'kar yiteinu, vikab'lu chulam et kol malchutecha, v'timloch alehem m'hera l'olam vaed.

Therefore we put our hope in You, ADONAI our God, that we may soon see Your mighty splendor, to remove detestable idolatry from the earth, and false gods will be utterly cut off, to perfect the universe through the Almighty's sovereignty. Then all humanity will call upon Your Name, to turn all the earth's wicked toward You. All the world's inhabitants will recognize and know that to You every knee should bend, every tongue should swear. Before You, ADONAI, our God, they will bend every knee and cast themselves down and to the glory of Your Name they will render homage, and they will all accept upon themselves the yoke of Your kingship that You may reign over them soon and eternally. For the kingdom is Yours and You will reign for all eternity in glory as it is written in Your Torah: ADONAI shall reign for all eternity.

Chazzan - And it is said: ADONAI will be King over all the world - on that day ADONAI will be One and His Name will be One.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid: for God the Lord is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation. Salvation belongs to Lord: Your blessing be upon Your people. (Selah.) The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. (Selah.) The Jews had light and joy and gladness and honour. (So be it with us.) I will lift the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord.
